‘I bought the glasses a few years ago, expecting to only wear them at home as a replacement for my contacts. Now, they’ve become my signature look.’

‘What I’ve noticed is that fewer men flirt with me since my switch to glasses. I have a boyfriend and I’m not looking for attention, but it’s a funny experiment anyway. The men who do come up to me are open to women who don’t comply exactly with strict standards for women’s clothing. It confirmed my allergy to these norms and to the idea that women have to dress for men. I resist, like some kind of men repeller. Or, even better, the glasses serve as a natural selection mechanism – I appeal only to nice, open-minded guys.’
